Programs Include:

  • Lunch Bunch:  Offered daily 11:15 to 12:45 
    • Eligible to children in Junior Kindergarten and Older 3s/Young 4s classes.
  • Independent Me Adventures for Threes:  Offered Monday and Tuesday 11:15 to 1:15 pm
    • Eligible to children in 3 Day 3s and Older 3s/ Young 4s AM.
  • WonderKids: Offered Tuesday 12:45 to 3:00 pm
    • Eligible ONLY to children in JK AM.
  • Food for Thought: Thursday 11:15 to 1:15 pm
    • Eligible to children in Older 3s/Young 4s AM and JK AM.

Detail description of each program:

Lunch Bunch:  Offered daily 11:15 to 12:45           

  • Eligible to children in Junior Kindergarten and Older 3s/Young 4s classes.
  • Lunch Bunch is a fun way to continue or start the day!
  • The children enjoy lunch and free play with their schoolmates while having fun learning the value of socializing with friends and teachers.
  • Willow Wood teachers eat with the children and encourage manners, all in a relaxed and fun setting.
  • Children must provide their own peanut free sack lunch.
  • No limit to the number of days a child can participate.
  • A lunch bunch drop in option will be available on the days where the session is not at full capacity. This information will be provided after the lunch bunch program begins.

Independent Me Adventures for Threes:  Offered Monday and Tuesday 11:15 to 1:15 pm

  • Eligible to children in 3 Day 3s and Older 3s/ Young 4s AM.
  • This is program, taught by Mrs. Acri, is especially designed for our 3 year old students.
  • The enrichment program includes guided free play, circle time, and art activities.  The unstructured portion of the session helps the children learn appropriate social interactions with their peers.  Circle time reinforces turn taking and literacy skills.  The art activities provide a chance to further develop fine motor skills and creative thinking.
  • Program includes a lunch bunch, and students are required to bring a peanut free sack lunch.
  • NOTE:  If we do not meet the minimum number of students for either class, the program will only be offered on Tuesday only.

WonderKids: Tuesday 12:45 to 3:00 pm

  • Eligible to children in JK AM students only.
  • WonderKids offers a variety of science themes not covered in the regular JK curriculum.
  • Program is taught by Mrs. Smith and provides structured lessons as well as unstructured learning activities.
  • The day starts with a story related to the topic the children will be exploring during their session such as weather, magnets, sound, animals, and the environment.  The program themes are drawn from the children’s own interests and their environment.  The children have an opportunity for hands-on experience with a variety of science related topics that are presented in a manner that is appropriate for their age and learning styles.
  • Activities include story time, creative arts projects, science experiments as well as outdoor activities (weather permitting!).

Food for Thought: Thursday 11:15 to 1:15 pm

  • Eligible to children in Older 3s/Young 4s AM and JK AM.
  • This is a new cooking program taught by Mrs. Bradley and Mrs. Smith.
  • Students will learn important food concepts by learning how health relates to the foods we eat and by experiencing new foods through tasting, smelling, seeing, cooking and eating.  They will learn responsibility by setting and clearing the table along with lessons in kitchen safety and basic manners.  The children will listen to food related stories and create food related art as well as practicing their combining, counting and comparing skills during cooking sessions.
  • At the end of most sessions, the children will bring home a sample of the food they made along with cooking ideas for parents to try with them at home.
  • Food for Thought includes a lunch bunch and students are required to bring a peanut free sack lunch.
